Re: Muluach article ...
He is a project, and it may take a year or two until he 'gets it' if he ever does.

One concern is that he puts up stats in G-League, but does not dominate.
I've seen several games where his defensive play is lackadaisical.
It's like he looks at G-League as scrimmaging that doesn't count for much.
That's a bit troubling ...
A fun team to watch again. A trade or two away from being a serious contender...

Just not getting the best vibes about man man…. Had hoped he would have been showing some promise by now.

Like I look at stoudamire…. The dude came out of hs, looked a little raw the first season at times but I feel that exposure is what made him raise his game and become as good as he was. I don’t think putting man man in g league is the most conducive to his development. Sometimes throwing people into the fire is the best way to see where they are or aren’t.

Stoudemire was raw, but attacked the rim and played functional defense.
Don't see that sort of fire in Muluach, yet.

I don't think the Amar'e comp is fair. STAT was unique in his aggressiveness and physical readiness. If you are waiting to see that in rookies, you're going to wait a long time.

I'll add that STAT was old coming out of high school. Even with a year of college, Man Man is still playing his rookie season a year younger than Amar'e did.

Plus, we are asking more out of Man Man. He has to anchor the defense, guard the 3pt line, shoot the 3, screen, roll, pop, dunk, and so on. Maluach has to be a complete basketball player. He has a ton more to learn.

Amar'e was not asked to play center and anchor a defense until later in his career. He wasn't asked to switch out and guard the 3pt line until later. All he had to do was stick with the opposing team's worst big in an era when every team had a big who couldn't score. On offense, all rookie STAT had to do was screen and dunk. He didn't start shooting until his second season.

Time will tell with Maluach but it is a little concerning. With our lack of draft picks for the near future, it was important that we hit on this pick. We had the luxury of four centers to start the season and Richards couldn't even get in the rotation. I love the kid's attitude and intelligence and he certainly has the physical attributes but not every project center pans out as the article laid out. Here's hoping but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Just wanted to share this Kellin Olson article on the state of the suns/ trade deadline. I find Kelin hard to listen to at times because him and his cohost sound identically monotone (odd for someone in media) and both their voices go up at the end of sentences like teenage girls ( for the love of god get a voice coach) but Just thought it was a good overall article: https://arizonasports.com/nba/phoenix-s ... 8/3610699/

Gives a good comparison to other times we didn’t want to mess with chemistry, but were also a potential lower playoff seed + how we could possibly get better in the future

I was going to try comparing Maluach to rookie Robin Lopez - it takes time for centers to develop.

Anyway, I was shocked (shocked, I tell you!) to see that Lopez had received a vote for rookie of the year. Man, post-season award voting is wild.

Zimmerman is hard to listen to. I usually choose not to. Olson is fine in my opinion.
Go Suns!

I don’t think saying Cedric Coward would look good here is whining…now if I start bringing that up with every single mention of Maluach to the point that we need a Cedric Coward thread because it annoys the entire board, you(or anyone) has my permission to throw this back in my face.

Personally, I think we should’ve drafted Luka over Ayton.

NBA.com Power Rankings
https://www.nba.com/news/power-rankings-2025-26-week-18
#10 Phoenix Suns
Last Week:8↓
Record: 32-23
OffRtg: 114.5 (14) DefRtg: 112.7 (10) NetRtg: +1.8 (13) Pace: 99.0 (22)

The Suns lost three of their last four games before the All-Star break, but they were just getting Devin Booker back from an extended absence and still have a shot at climbing into the top six in the Western Conference.

Three numbers to know

The Suns have allowed 5.0 fewer points per 100 possessions than they did last season (117.7 per 100, 27th). That’s the league’s second biggest drop. They’ve seen the league’s biggest jumps in average pick-up distance (according to tracking data) and opponent turnover rate, from 12.3 per 100 possessions (28th) last season to 16.9 (second) this season.

They have the fourth best record (28-5, .848) in games they led by double-digits. But they’re also just 7-21 (.250, 20th) in games they trailed by double-digits. That’s the league’s biggest such differential.

Dillon Brooks has a usage rate of 28.2%, up from 17.6% last season. That’s the biggest jump among 334 players who’ve played at least 250 minutes in each of the last two seasons.

Coming up: The Suns are one of five teams with a league-high seven back-to-backs left on their schedule, and the first is Saturday and Sunday, when they’ll host the Magic and Blazers. That’s the start of a stretch where they’re playing seven of eight games at home.

Week 18: @ SAS, vs. ORL, vs. POR
