It seemed like most games he was really getting after guys with full court pressure and getting steals like all good lil guys have done in the league. This season everyone just seems so comfortable when he's on them even when he tries to hound ppl full court. The topic of who would guard opposing pgs when Book at point came up and I must say I was quite surprised to see how well TJ did against Kemba y'day
I'm worried about Ulis, too. He has not improved this year.
Nope. He's regressed for sure.
I think a lot of that is due to people realizing he can't shoot, and not having Williams available.
Good point about Williams. Those two had a special connection.
It's on Ulis to develop that with the bigs who are playing. He's had plenty of time with all of them.

Ulis will have to develop an outside jumper if he hopes to have long-term success. It doesn't have to be out to 3-point range, but he needs to be able to keep defenders honest.

He kinda does need a 3. Rare is the PG who makes a real impact while specializing in the long 2.

As a small man in basketball, you have to have special skills in at least a couple areas. See Mugsey Bogues and Spud Webb.

Especially if he doesn't have the ability to get to the line.

Agreed. Wasn't trying to let him off the hook. He is a freaking PG, he needs to know how to play with the entire team. But it does make me wonder if Williams made Ulis look better than he is, or vice versa, or a good mix of the two. I guess we will see at some point.

I'm deeply sad about the lack of improvement (and perhaps regression) of Ulis this year. I haven't totally given up on him, but if he wants to stick on the team long-term, he is going to have to really buckle down and practice this summer. He needs to put up a thousand 3s and jumpers a day, work with a shooting coach, whatever it takes to get better.

I think a lot has been put on his shoulder this year. He was coming off ankle surgery in May so he couldn't workout in the summer, then the team blew up and he was asked to start or at least play major minutes. He should be a backup sparkplug getting others involved 12-16 minutes a night.

I'll withhold judgement on Ulis until next season. Like Shel said, he was injured and didn't start the season with his bod right. To me, he looks a half step slower this year, and I's like to see what he looks like after a summer to build up his legs.

Ulis wouldn't stop me from drafting a couple pgs in the 2nd round this year.

Ulis wouldn't stop me from grabbing a PG from the YMCA if he was good enough. :D

Those are all fair points. I haven't given up on Ulis. I agree that he has a lot of valid reasons to be having a bad season, primarily his big injury. I still think he should be locked in the gym all summer shooting 3s and jumpers. If he does that, along with coming in 100% healthy in fall, we may have something.
