The jazz are nuts if that's true.
Just Danny Ainge being Danny Ainge. He wants to win every trade like he is Alabama playing a D2 school.

Seems pretty savvy to me. Collins salary is a lot higher and he's not that much better than Vanderbilt. Collins is probably a 3rd guy at best while Vanderbilt is a rotation starter albeit with seemingly more growth upside since he's 2 years younger. If I were in the Jazz position, I'd also want a sweetener to facilitate a more or less unnecessary deal from my perspective.
Eh. Collins is bonafide scorer. Vanderbilt isn't. Collins is having a down year, but he is still young and isn't far removed from having a 20/10 season. I think it is highly unlikely Vanderbilt ever averages anything close to 20/10.

Attaching a 1st rounder, let alone multiple firsts, to move John Collins sounds like T.J. Warren trade logic.
I see Collins and Ayton similarly. The box scores look great but it doesn’t really meet expectations when watching them on the court. They both need help getting their shots.

Collins is the better player overall, but Vanderbilt does stuff other than score much better than him. The gap between them isn’t huge, and certainly not equal in value to multiple first round picks.

You think we could get Andrew Nembhard from Indy? He doesn't really make a lot of sense with Hali. I think we need to start looking for a young PG.
Doubtful. They are pretty high on him here in Indy and their rebuild is going quicker than anticipated. Hield, Turner and, McConnell will be guys they look to move although McConnel has played so poorly i doubt theyll be able to move his 2 years at 8+ million left.
I'll gladly take McConnell.
We should have HAD a young PG by now...

I’ll say that adding to the Jae trade calculus would be JJ having to explain to a new owner why he made a marginal trade for short term benefit, or traded away a first rounder, or didn’t look to take back one. You can say JJ is looking for the best deal but there likely isn’t one that is going to be great. I think our best expectation is a 1:1 deal that looks like the Ariza for Oubre trade (I think someone alluded to this before on the board).

With time runniing and the risk of getting nothing in return growing by the day, I don’t get it why the Atlanta deal is not taken by Jones, getting Collins for ourselves.

If starting the season he was not a palatable target (specially with the KD fantasy still alive and kicking), it could be the best posible return nowaday.

Ya I’d take that if it’s just Crowder/Saric for Collins…no picks involved

Sounds great to me but how do we know Atlanta would agree to it. I just have a feeling we're going to have to wait until the new ownership is in place.

Well if the report was true, Atlanta was on board with the proposed 3-way, it was Utah that wanted more, so theoretically they’d be fine with taking Utah out of the trade.

Exactly my point, before the Suns leverage takes another hit, it's time to check what's on the table and take the offers that make sense basketball wise, you can't be fixated with things like "equal value", "asset management", "winning the trade", to the point of freezing. Besides, "experts" on the above like McDonough, can truly feel they did a great trade, while sinking the on-court product.

The Colangelos were always about the on-court product, sometimes to the fault of including first rounders like candies (there wasn't this multiple picks vice back then, but many times they included a first for a role player), but I think that was more about getting things done, than undervalue them. I can see them sending Crowder home, but no way they would have let it drag to this point, and of course, they never would have allowed to field an undermanned team for so long if they were trying to contend, sitting on so many tradeable contracts.

It's time to get things done, or punt the season, which wouldn't be the worse, just do it right as well.

Also I saw that apparently Tom Leander interviewed James Jones about the open roster spot and he said it would stay open until the Crowder trade…also said he isn’t interested in 10 days because it takes 5 days to get acclimated to the team. 2 10 days though still gives you 15 days of play. That would help.

I’m getting the feeling that we might have trades lined up and waiting for the timing…like maybe Jan 15th? Just a thought, but would explain why things are not happening. Or we are just really strapped on what we can do because of the owner situation.

Why specifically January 15th?

That’s when Ayton can be traded

Oh, Ayton is the source of all the Suns problems? I'm not sure this will fix anything.

No I’m just saying we have an agreement in place to trade him and have to wait until 1/15 to do it and Crowder is part of the trade…just an explanation for why we haven’t done anything.

I thought Ayton had veto power on any trade this season?

I keep hoping that these upcoming dates mean something and they never do.

Right now, I’m starting to resign myself to getting Cedi Osman for Crowder and JJ calling it a season.

He's not wrong in this case. Yea it's an extra body, but with little practice time during the season and most likely some GLeague type, you're not looking at much impact.
