Ya he’s just a Capela/Chandler/Gobert type…don’t expect any offense outside of dunks, but he’s a lob threat and you’re drafting him for his defense.Shabazz wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 1:44 pmHolmes, sure.
I'm not seeing it with Missi. My opinion is based solely on Youtube highlights, but he seems like pure catch and finish athleticism with limited skills and decision making. He dribbles like a 3rd grader. You'd be counting on some significant player development to get him to a place where he can help a contending team.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
Spent some time today watching prospects…I wish Ware didn’t have motor questions…scared off from our last big with motor issues. He is definitely the most talented of the bigs in our range. Big, athletic, smooth looking jumper with range.
Holmes feels like the 80% version(a little smaller, a little less of an athlete, not quite the shooter) but with the motor turned up to 100%. Think I’d lean him right now over Ware.

Filipowski looks like a slower, skinnier Frank Kaminsky. How much do you think Duke is paying ESPN to hype their prospects?SunsRIt wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 12:06 pmAn ESPN mock draft says this:
22. Phoenix Suns
Kyle Filipowski, PF/C, Duke | Age: 20.5
The Suns are in a precarious position as they attempt to construct a contender around their trio of highly paid stars. Phoenix is spending more aggressively than any team in the league and has also traded away control of its future drafts with picks and swap rights outgoing through 2030.
Expect the Suns to look for a ready-made contributor at the No. 22 pick, with Filipowski's size (7-0 and 230 pounds) and skill level adding a potentially useful dimension to their frontcourt. Filipowski's range is also somewhat wide at this point, running toward the end of the first round. Phoenix also has a glaring need for a true point guard, which is something it will likely consider here as well. -- Woo
Real talk, though, this draft class isn't as clearly ordered as most. a lot of these guys seem to have a 20 pick range. FilipO could go anywhere from 15 to 35 and I wouldn't be surprised. Seems like a perfect draft for Jones to pull someone we thought would go in the middle of the 2nd round.
For a non-Suns pick, I'm surprised how far Rob Dillingham has fallen. I think he'll be really good. Top 3 in this draft with a high upside.

I love drafts like this, when the order and best players are unclear and the Suns have only a late-1st-round pick. It makes it all the more likely that some team, maybe us, will steal somebody great in the late 1st round. I really hope we don't trade away our pick.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 8:38 amFilipowski looks like a slower, skinnier Frank Kaminsky. Here are the Suns picks in the first round that played 1,000 minutes their rookie season.
2018 Deandre Ayton (1)
2017 Josh Jackson (4)
2015 Devin Booker (13)
2011 Markieff Morris (13)
2006 Rajon Rondo (21) - traded to BOS
2005 Nate Robinson (21) - traded to NYK
2004 Luol Deng (7) - traded to CHI
2002 Amare Stoudemire (9)
1999 Shawn Marion (9)
1995 Michael Finley (21)
1994 Wesley Person (23)
1992 Oliver Miller (22)
1989 Anthony Cook (24) - traded to DEN
1988 Dan Majerle (13)
1987 Armen Gilliam (2)
1985 Ed Pinkney (10)
1984 Jay Humphries (13)
1981 Larry Nance (20)
1979 Kyle Macy (22) - junior eligible, signed in 1980
1978 Marty Byrnes (19)
1977 Walter Davis (5)
1976 Ron Lee (10)
1975 Alvan Adams (4)
1975 Ricky Sobers (16)
1974 John Shumate (4) - missed 1974-75 for health reasons, traded during 1975-76
1973 Mike Bantom (8)
1972 Corky Calhoun (4)
1971 John Roche (14) - signed with NYN of ABA
1969 Neal Walk (2)
1968 Gary Gregor (8)
The only picks in the second half of the first round who really made an impact for the Suns are Michael Finley, Wesley Person, Oliver Miller, Larry Nance, Kyle Macy and Ricky Sobers. Finley and Sobers were both starters, with Sobers actually starting in the Finals (along with rookie Alvan Adams). Miller, Person and Macy were both rotation players on 50+ win teams. Finley played a lot of minutes for a .500 team, and Nance made a huge leap his 2nd year (pun intended) and eventually became an All-Star with the Suns.
This doesn't include rookies they traded for who played 1,000 minutes like Mikal Bridges (10), Cameron Johnson (11) or Marquuese Chriss (8).

It’s hard to look at those 3 straight picks traded from 04-06
Re: 2024 NBA Draft
I had such a man crush on Rondo that year, I was furious they sold him.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
IIRC, rookie Rondo thought he was better than MVP Nash and the Suns were at least a little concerned about him being a pain in the ass in the locker room.

Worth the headache to have Nash and Rondo on the same team. I also just have a thing for Kentucky guards, can't help it.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 7:36 pmIIRC, rookie Rondo thought he was better than MVP Nash and the Suns were at least a little concerned about him being a pain in the ass in the locker room.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
Between that and not resigning Joe Johnson, there's probably at least one lost title in there. Those guys would have given us the much needed bench depth we so sorely lacked in the '04 - '10 SSOL run.

I think you brought this up last week, but it's always a bit of a shock to look at the Suns draft history and see 7th round picks in 1987. I think of those long drafts as happening back in the 50's and 60's, and I'm surprised every time I discover that they happened while I was a (young) fan.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
I thought it was just because D'Antoni wasn't going to play a guard who couldn't shoot. Still, Kyle Lowry and Paul Milsap were still on the board, along with a few other playable role players. So all of the excuses are just excuses. The Suns just didn't want a rookie.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 7:36 pmIIRC, rookie Rondo thought he was better than MVP Nash and the Suns were at least a little concerned about him being a pain in the ass in the locker room.

Ya it’s a miracle we were so good with how badly we botched a lot of important things…part of why 2011-2020 were so bad as well

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
As I recall, it was the combo of (a) Sarver was cheap AF and salivated at the thought of selling a draft pick for $3 million; and (b) D'Antoni loved short rotations and didn't love rookies and was basically fine with us selling off picks. That was a bad combo.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 7:55 amI thought it was just because D'Antoni wasn't going to play a guard who couldn't shoot. Raps are going to steal my guy, aren't they? IMO this guy is going to be a solid pro and people are sleeping on him.
Re: 2024 NBA Draft
I still don’t see it. I think he’ll be a decent backup big in the right situation, but I’m not sure he fits a lot of modern schemes.
