I like Edey, but I think he would be a really poor fit with the Big 3. And even though I like Budenholzer, I don't know if he could or would be willing to develop a second unit like what you describe. The last time I saw a coach develop a second unit with its own identity like that was Alvin Gentry with the 2010 Suns.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 7:20 am
Edey is slower than a lot of prospects, but people said the same thing about SGA, Luka, Sabonis, etc. Every year there is a guy who plays too slow proving that he can force his own pace. I think the important point with Edey is that you have to actually feature him in the offence to get value from him. He's going to get murdered if other teams can pull him away from the basket on defense, so he has to be a big enough threat on offense to make up for that. The Suns would have to build a bench around him and just hammer the opposing team's backup center for 8 minute stretches. Is that the best move for us, and do we have the personnel to make it work?

JJ doesn't prevent Amare from having microfracture. And the Suns really need Boris in the 05-06. I'll never cry over JJ. I hope he enjoyed being a fake star for a mediocre team that went nowhere.

The unfortunate thing with Flex is he’s clearly had some accurate information at times, but he blends his opinion in with his “reports”…I’m not saying this report of the suns wanting to trade up in the draft is accurate, but this feels like Flex “reporting” and then putting on his GM hat and trying to explain the why…but it’s all just his opinion and in this clip makes zero sense.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
So we want to trade up, then use that pick for someone else? Wtf?
Sounds like a 3 team trade with more steps… how about this 3 team trade?
Grizzlies- Cam Johnson, DFS, Nurk
Nets- Smart, Kennard and Brandon Clarke, #9 and #38
Suns- Santi Aldama, Dennis Schroeder

Tyson and Scheierman are interesting to me…I’d Love Silva but we’d need to move up for him.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
Here’s my draft wish list…3 names for all scenarios(trade up, stay at 22, trade back)
Trade up:
1. Tristan Da Silva - Would be my top target. 6’9, can shoot and has some playmaking chops. Could step right in and play an immediate role.
2. Devin Carter - I don’t really love the idea of trading up for anyone that isn’t Silva, but I do like Carter and he does make some sense as a POA defender. He can defend up a bit and just feels like a plug and play guy as well. Just wish he was bigger. Shot well this year.
3. No chance at this but Donovan Clingan would be awesome.
Stay put at 22:
1. Kel’el Ware - He might have to be a trade up guy too…I go back and forth on him, but his talent level has sold me. Effort levels have been questioned, but you don’t usually get a 7 footer with athleticism that can shoot at 22.
2. DaRon Holmes II - smaller than Ware, but brings some similar skills. Can shoot and finish at the rim…shows some ability to attack off the bounce. I see him as more of a 3rd big, but I think he’d be useful. Not the ceiling Ware has.
3. Kyle Filipowski - I’ve come around on him a bit too…he can play out of the short roll. Should be able to pick n pop…much more skilled than Eubanks. Don’t love it as I’d probably prefer to trade down…
Trade Down:
1. Jaylon Tyson - Good shooter, can defend…has size at 6’7…was a lead guard in college but think he can move more to a role player. Shoot off the catch and attack close outs. He can run some offense with the 2nd unit.
2. Tyler Kolek- I do like him and I’d be cool drafting him if we trade down and pick up an nba asset or draft asset alongside him. He can take our backup pg position and keep the offense moving when Booker is out. Good shooter that could play next to Book too.
3. Baylor Scheierman - 6’6 shooter with some playmaking chops. The shooting especially is what I’m after. I do wish he was a little bigger or could defend.
Other options if we trade down and pick up additonal picks:
1. Harrison Ingram
2. Quentin Post
3. Jalen Bridges
4. Bronny James(I do have ulterior motives with this one)

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
Just saw this:
22. Phoenix: Tyler Kolek
(Marquette: Guard, Senior, 6-3)
Previous rank: 28 (+6) / Best rank: 18 / Worst rank: 28
There’s a growing belief from rival NBA executives who spoke with HoopsHype that Phoenix will target Marquette point guard Tyler Kolek with the 22nd overall pick.
Kolek led the NCAA in assists this season and would be a potential fit for the Suns, who want to add a traditional point guard this offseason.
It’s also worth noting Kolek is a Priority Sports client and is represented by agent Mark Bartelstein, whose son, Josh, is the CEO of the Suns.
Speaking of Bartelstein clients, free agent Royce O’Neale is expected to re-sign with Phoenix and is projected to earn roughly $10 million annually. The Suns have O’Neale’s Bird Rights heading into free agency, allowing them to go over the cap to retain him.

That's my guy, huge fan, I don't know if there is a better fit for the PG off the bench for this team.
Love, Hurts.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
I do think he’s a good fit…I’d just probably put pg off the bench lower on my priority list…
Our playoff rotation was essentially
Booker/EG
Beal/Okogie
Allen/O’Neale(Little moved in with the Allen injury)
KD/Bol
Nurk/Eubanks
Kolek replaces EG, but I think I’d rather have an Okogie/Little replacement that could move Allen to the backup sg role or a Nurk/Eubanks replacement.
But if Kolek is the guy, I could get behind it…just wouldn’t be my first choice and I hope it’s part of a trade back if we do it.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
Him being a Bartlestein client makes me think it could be legit…but then Zach Edey, Kyle Filipowski, and Baylor Scheierman are as well.
I’m gonna go on a limb and say we take one of those 4 if we keep our pick.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
Kolek is probably the guy unless he goes earlier. There's been smoke with us and McConnell for a while and that's as close a player comp as you can get. Older, experienced do-it-all PG who can presumably contribute right away. Bud also had guys similar in Milwaukee so he should know how to deploy a guy like that.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft
I do like that, unlike McConnell, Kolek can shoot so there is more upside.

Ya they gonna trade it for some version of Landry Shamet
