I kinda think you guys are wrong here. Let me give you a perspective you may not have thought about to better appreciate this man.

Deandre Ayton is the best player the Suns have ever drafted #1 overall. You may have a different opinion but you're wrong.
Can't argue with that one.

Or will for a long time to come. Other teams own our ping pong balls for at least the next six drafts.
Still get to pick every other draft though.
Draft picks can be purchased as well.

We traded a triple swap in ‘26. We get the worst of our pick, WAS’s, ORL’s or MEM’s.
Hot. But also, at least we got one. Just gotta get lucky, imagine they strike gold like Denver did with Joker, it happens, not in Phoenix, but it happens 😂
That's a good question though. Who is the best, deep draft pick in Suns history? 2nd round or later. Alvin Scott comes to mind but he was ahead of most of your times. He was solid but not great. But for sure the deepest good player. That was back when they had many more rounds and he was drafted out of the 7th round!

This isn’t our Richard Dumas, is it??

EDIT: Spears deleted his original quote-tweeted post, which said that his friend’s father, Richard Dumas, was missing in Oakland and has dementia.

EDIT 2: Marc Spears now deleted the new post saying that Mr. Dumas was found.

In terms of 2nd round picks, Probably Goran Dragic is the most successful, right? Spurs picking him was just a technicality, they were picking him for us. Late 1st? Maybe Barbosa?

You can find gems all over the draft. Just look at this last one, Ryan Dunn was the 28th pick and Oso was 40th, both are rotation players right now. So it doesn’t matter too much to me that our pick swaps might be later round picks.

Also could you image where we be at without Ryan Dunn and Oso??? Ooof. 🤢

Jeff Hornacek and Ced Ceballos were second round picks. Also Steve Kerr, but we didn’t keep him long.

One problem with that. He wasn’t a true center. He was a power forward. Thus the reason we traded for Shaq.
True but he played C
Really only in one season, 2004-05, the small-ball year. Kurt Thomas was our starting center in 2005-06 and 2006-07. In 2007-08, we traded for Shaq who was our starting center through 2008-09. In 2009-10, Robin Lopez (and Frye) was our starting center.

Thomas only started 13 games in 06-07…we started Amare/Diaw mostly. Shaq started 28 games in 07-08, so that’s a good 50 games with Amare starting. He missed the 05-06 season, so Amare started 2.5 years at C. No other C comes close to the production Amare had 04-05 through 07-08 when Shaq joined.

Sorry I was gonna add Diaw in there too. If I remember correctly it was usually Diaw at center in 2006-07, not Amare.

Yep. If Diaw played today he'd be very very rich, was always a big fan.

Ya I guess can we quibble about who was the 5 and the 4…I think Amare was more of the 5 on offense, Diaw probably defended more 5s.
