I’m ok with Goodwin. I think he defends well which makes him easier to play next to Booker and/or Green.

Goodwin played well for the Lakers last year. I like him too, and thought he got yanked in and out of the Suns rotation too haphazardly when he played here.

But we did need more of a Butler type. This team still has a massive "creator" problem. Who is initiating offense for this team when one of Booker or Green is sitting and the other one gets doubled? Dunn, Royce, Brooks, NHD, Fleming, Williams, Maluach, Goodwin, none of these guys can consistently and effectively create shots. Grayson, Gilly and Oso being our next best creators is no bueno.

This is Ott's problem.

I liked Goodwin when we had him.

Goodwin is more athletic and Butler is the better passer. I'd be happy with either or both.

For what it's worth John Hollinger had Butler pretty highly rated on his list of free agent PGs (the revenue number is how much he thinks they're worth):

14. Jared Butler, Sixers, $7,480,719 (TO)

As a card-carrying Butler believer, it’s nice to see BORD$ agree with me. He has a team option for $2.35 million, and the Sixers are desperate for inexpensive back-end-rotation talent, but there’s a scenario where Philly declines the option and re-signs him to a longer deal as a non-Bird free agent. Between Butler’s age (he turns 25 in August) and this BORD$ value, the Sixers should extend the deal for as long as they can.14.

Here's where he had Gillespie:

32. Collin Gillespie, Suns (R-2w)

How did the Knicks miss this guy? The Villanova grad finished last year on a two-way in Phoenix and shoved veteran Monté Morris out of the rotation by knocking down 43.3 percent of his 3s and scrapping enough on defense to mostly survive at 6-1. The Suns likely will make him a restricted two-way free agent, but he could push his way onto the roster.

Some highlights:

Entering his ninth season, Brooks is among the headliners of the Phoenix Suns’ summer reboot, acquired with athletic guard Jalen Green and others in a blockbuster trade with the Houston Rockets for superstar Kevin Durant. Phoenix’s intent was to get bigger, younger and more athletic. But the Suns also wanted to get tougher, especially on defense. Those who have worked with Brooks insist few are better.

This may take time. Not for Brooks, but for Phoenix fans. Throughout their history, the Suns have had elite scorers, gifted passers and decent defenders. They have not had many irritators, guys who lived to get inside an opponent’s head. Dennis Awtrey (1970s), Maurice Lucas (1980s) and Danny Ainge (1990s) all could annoy or intimidate, but not at this level.

“If you’re giving a scout, you could ask Dillon about the best player,” Ahearn said. “You could also ask him about the 13th player — Dillon will be able to give you a full scouting report on everybody. His attention to detail and how he prepares in order to guard guys is special. … I just respect the heck out of him that night-in and night-out he wants that matchup, and he’s not going to back down from it.”

“One of the best things I think you can say about him is he plays 82 games and he comes out every night like it’s the last game he’s going to play,” Jones said.

Boy, we can use that last attribute after what we witnessed last season.
