Anyone else watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? The wife and I are watching it and really enjoy it. Dunk and Egg are nearly perfectly cast, and they have done a pretty good job of following the book. It's been a lot of fun; highly recommend, don't sleep on this one if you were upset with how badly Game of Thrones ended (and/or a bit disappointed by House of the Dragon Season 2).

We are also watching Fallout. Very weird and fun show. Can't take it too seriously but it's well made and a fun watch. We are about halfway through Season 2 now. It turns out it's made by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who made Westworld, a show I really loved until the wheels came off after the first few seasons.

I've watched all of Fallout. Almost turned it off during the first episode of the first season due to the ridiculous, almost Monty Python style, blood explosions. But got past that and have enjoyed the whole series in spite of never playing the video games.

Still bummed about how all of that ended…. Could have been great.

Also, be sure to check out the Fallout Fake Talkshow in the extras section. Funny stuff.

Wife and I really enjoying A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Brutal violence tonight. Wow.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Project Hail Mary is landing in theaters. Anybody going to see it? I own but haven't yet read the book, but my parents and brother read and loved it and are really looking forward to this one.

It's a book I've read through a couple of times. It's really quite entertaining in the same sort of way 'The Martian' was. Except, where 'The Martian' was fairly grounded in real, current or near-future science and tech, this one is kind of batshit. Mostly in good ways, though. I'll be seeing the movie week 1, going to get an IMAX ticket if I can.

Saw the first few seconds of the trailer two weeks ago, then stopped watching so I could read the book which I finished over the weekend. Not a sci-fi fan but enjoyed the book a lot and the trailer looks pretty faithful. Weir also wrote The Martian and while I didn't read the book, I saw the movie and felt like a lot of the dialogue was written the same way. You can imagine Gosling, Damon, Ryan Reynolds, etc in these roles.

I just finished the book couple days ago. Fucking great still thinking about.

Can’t wait for the movie and it seems knocked it out the park.

Anyone catch the Oscars? I only saw the list of winners for the major categories. Didn't see all the movies, just One Battle After Another, Sinners and Weapons. Will try and catch the others. Generally, I thought Sinners and Weapons were overrated but I think Academy has been trying to include more mainstream movies than in the past to help viewership for the Oscars.

One Battle After Another was good but I thought it was kind of all over the place tonally and it felt like the main cast were all making a different movie. It flipped around between political satire, thriller, drama, screwball/buddy comedy. Thought PTA did deserve the Oscar but also felt like maybe a make-good for past losses. Deserved Cinematography as well.

Still want to catch Bugonia and have no idea what Hamnet is about.

I was talking to my wife and I'm pretty sure I went to the theater to see a movie zero times in 2025. I am very interested in movies and TV shows but I just cannot get to a movie theater given all the many kids I have running around. So I have to wait for streaming, but that takes so long that I forget about the movie and lose interest.

I wish the new releases would hit streaming faster. I know they don't want to do that before they've made all they can in theaters, but for people like me, it makes the difference between paying to see the movie and not paying to see it. They're losing my revenue. Oh well.

Do movies make more in theaters vs what they can make on a platform at home? I don't even understand the appeal of theaters anymore, too cold, too loud, too crowded, too expensive.

I still enjoy going to the movie theater. Nothing like sharing a movie with a crowd while munching on buttered popcorn and a coke icee.

I always try and go a few after the release date in the afternoon on a weekday so I have the theater to myself. Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Kinds of Kindness, Beetlejuice never had more than 5-7 people in the theater. I don't think I saw anything in 2025 tho.

Certain movies are definitely better viewed on a larger screen and with massive sound... At least now you can reserve your seats and not have to sit in a line for 90 minutes before the movie in hopes of scoring decent seats.

On the flip side I did invest into a somewhat decent home set up for bringing the theater experience as close to home as possible.. Now If I could just talk my wife into that 98" tv I see every time we walk into Costco lol
