Suns News: 2026 Postseason Edition
Re: Suns News: 2026 Postseason Edition
If they let Mark Williams walk, they will have given up two 1sts for a one-year rental of a brittle big man. I understand the sunk cost fallacy argument but that'll be a low-key disastrous trade in retrospect. I actually really hope they re-sign Williams because I don't think Oso / ManMan is a successful NBA center rotation in 2026-27. They might get there in a year or two, but not yet.

The trade didn't make sense from Day 1. From Williams' injury history to the contract situation and giving up picks. It's why I still don't think much of this FO.

I was just thinking how we don't have enough small guards. Excellent.

I don't get this comment. Gillespie and Goodwin are both rotation-quality NBA guards, and Goodwin can guard up to the 3 in a pinch. I agree that we have a glut of guards, but it is widely assumed that the Suns are working on trades for one or both of Grayson Allen and/or Jalen Green. We also faced the inevitable injuries last season and all of these guys were important and helpful. Plus the NBA is in an era where shooting and guard skills are at a premium; this isn't the mid-90s where you needed hulking centers and forwards. At any rate I don't think we will have too many guards, and given our limited assets and the likely contract amounts/terms, I don't think it benefits us to let either of CG or Goody walk.

It was already a pretty high risk move at the time in itself, but it became almost indefensible once Maluach was drafted. Anyway, all will depend on what is the salary Williams is willing to take along with health-based clauses. MLE or less not fully guaranteed, and I roll with it and figure out the rest later. If he wants more, or no injury protection for the team, I can't justify the commitment.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2026 12:09 pmIf they let Mark Williams walk, they will have given up two 1sts for a one-year rental of a brittle big man. Agreed. It is Allen and Green who should be the targets for this type of comment as you have Booker and Brooks over those two.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2026 6:58 amI don't get this comment. Williams doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who's insane. If there's a team that wants him for 20mm per year, they can have him, though.Ring_Wanted wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2026 7:29 amIt was already a pretty high risk move at the time in itself, but it became almost indefensible once Maluach was drafted. Rotation guards for the Suns sure, doesn't mean I need to be excited about extending journeyman, especially small bench guards. Ho hum.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2026 6:58 amI don't get this comment. Gillespie and Goodwin are both rotation-quality NBA guards, and Goodwin can guard up to the 3 in a pinch.
