Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
Watson was a cheap option that fit into tank mode
now, bringing up these youngins the wrong way will be a costly mistake
thank him, pay him, and cut him loose tomorrow

Can't disagree. Mike is one of my favorites, but he pouted his way out.EDC wrote:Mike was great here but lets not pretend he didn't burn everything down on his way out. Taking one comment from the GM and turning it into a s*** storm in the middle of a playoff series against the Spurs was insane. D'Antoni made it all about himself and basically gave up on the team and it showed out on the court.
And yes I agree Sarver is an idiot but I just dislike when Mike D gets a pass for the s*** that went down.

I think the pressure got to him. Every year he was on the hot seat because we were so close to winning a title. Every year we kept losing the same way to the same teams. Every year we dealt with significant injuries that hurt our chances. Yet, every year we were winning 50+ games. We never enjoyed the ride and our FO/ownership never put him at ease despite his success. He knew the clock was ticking for him once Kerr took over.

I haven't kept up with the news but is there any chances of criminal charges against him? As long as he isn't going to be arrested I would be fine with having someone with his experience coaching the team.Superbone wrote:Rick Pitino, anyone?

Dan Majerle has been doing really well for GCU. He's not an experienced NBA head coach but he's shown a proclivity for teaching youngsters.

Same here, but for a different reason. I think the draft pick is more important right now. So we stick with Watson and pick top 3 and then bring in someone else day 1 of the off season.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:I think he will make it through the season. $aver is too cheap and stupid to know of any better coach who he'd actually be willing to pay the money for.

How many 20 years olds can we have on the team? We already have Booker locked in at SG, Jackson and Warren are fighting for minutes at SF, Chriss and Bender are really 4s. We're just creating logjams with young players who need minutes to develop.
Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
We'll probably trade 1 of Bender/Chriss by next Summer.

I’m all aboard the Becky Hammon bandwagon, who’s with me?

Nope.Superbone wrote:Rick Pitino, anyone?
He failed in Boston because he wanted to be the Coach, GM, President, and Everything. He just couldn't work together with anyone else.

He would be pretty high on my list.Superbone wrote:Dan Majerle has been doing really well for GCU. He's not an experienced NBA head coach but he's shown a proclivity for teaching youngsters.

I'd call. I don't think SA will let her go, though. I think she is Popovic's heir.Wally_West wrote:I’m all aboard the Becky Hammon bandwagon, who’s with me?

I thought the NBA assistant coach contracts had a clause about allowing them to get promoted by another team.O_Gardino wrote:I'd call. I don't think SA will let her go, though. I think she is Popovic's heir.Wally_West wrote:I’m all aboard the Becky Hammon bandwagon, who’s with me?

Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
I wouldn't be opposed to Becky Hammon; she's clearly in favor in San Antonio and has done a great job coaching Summer League.
On the more traditional front, I've always liked Jeff Van Gundy. Also, I read somewhere that Mike Malone might be on the hot seat in Denver if they don't perform well. I think he's a really good, underrated coach.
Unfortunately, I think Sarver is going to stick with Watson through the year, no matter what.

JVG reminds me of Jon Gruden. Name is always brought up, but seems to have no desire to start coaching an NBA team again.wpmiller42 wrote:I wouldn't be opposed to Becky Hammon; she's clearly in favor in San Antonio and has done a great job coaching Summer League.
