OK, but wouldn't you want to smooth things over with your star employee who went to lunch every day with his best friend who you are firing? You piss him off and maybe he jumps ship to a competitor. I would do it just as a courtesy, not out of obligation.
I’m not sure exactly how this played out, but the order of operations probably should have been:

1) Tell Ulis he’s done here
2) Call Booker immediately after to break the news

You wouldn’t want to tell Booker first because Booker tells Ulis and Ulis ends up hearing it through the grapevine, which is terrible people management.
I don’t know what the right thing to do is, but I’m not an NBA GM and payed millions to do it correctly. Hasn’t he learned how to deal with these things? On what base did he get his job then?
I guarantee you McD didn't get his job based on his communication skills (right side of the brain). It was obviously due to his left, analytical side.
Can we get a GM with a full brain please.
 A full brain would be nice, wouldn't it?

If Booker didn’t feel blindsided, would there be a report of him beeing upset?
Uh, maybe? It’s not entirely clear at this point how credible “sources” are. Let’s slow down and see how this plays out.
It is now almost certainly a fact.

Hoping James Jones can/will help on the communication front. As an ex-player he should have first hand knowledge on the best way to deal with these situations.

OK, here we go:

Ryan's incompetence when it comes to basic personnel management is staggering. I don't understand how this keeps happening.

I don't get why we were so eager to get rid of Ulis. He played pretty well for us. I thought he was the kind of "Socks Perry" backup PG you can keep on your team for a long time at low money because they aren't quite good enough to attract FA attention around the league, but they're secretly pretty darn good as a backup PG and really make the most of those minutes. And he played really well with some of our guys like Booker and Williams. Wish we'd kept Ulis on the team. I know we just drafted Okobo, but I don't have any particular reason to think Okobo will be strictly better than Ulis.

I was thinking the same thing. Jones is going to have to handle that side of things if McD isn't capable of it.

Ulis has been one of the worst rotation guys in the NBA over his first two years... Surely he can improve, but he's not done anything on the court to warrant a roster spot

Agreed Marty. I understand the size concerns, but Ulis at least could've been a great practice player and you know a guy like him probably has an extremely high bball IQ. I think he suffered a sophomore slump, mainly due to ankle surgery last summer that limited his summer workouts. Then he was pressed into starting action because of our roster, which pretty much set him up to fail.

Not sure where you got I thought you were lying, all I said is he didn't have it as a liked post when I checked
Your beginning to the sentence “if he ever did” implied that you had doubt that he ever did, that’s all

According to Max and Dave of the 7SOL podcast, Devin tweeted "24 hours in a day" yesterday at some point and then deleted it. That has to be about McDonough saying "I just ran out of time dealing with free agency' or something similar, right?
Go Suns!

I saw that tweet. Some people thought it was related to the Suns trading for Lillard because Lillard postet a watch in one of his tweets. So no Lillard to Suns... :(
