They added salary with Jonas so they definitely wanted him…but if they buy him out now, he may give back his entire contract and it actually saves Denver a lot of money and opens up some MLE space for them.
How does that work tho? If he agrees to a buy out that certainly saves them money but does it actually clear the money off their cap sheet?

Yes it does clear it. Same with us for Beal…even if we don’t stretch it, we will clear whatever he gets back off the cap sheet.

What utah is doing makes no sense,
It's amazing how far fanbases will go to justify the dumb things their teams do. I read Utah fan-run site article about the move, and they cited how Utah had to deal Sexton because they needed to make room for their young players, how he isn't a defender blah blah blah, and how Nurkic could be useful big man depth.

Bottomline is you traded a good basketball player on an expiring deal WITH a second round pick for a bad player on an expiring contract. Since Utah gave up a second rounder, my first thought that it would have been smarter just to waive Sexton and keep the second rounder. But maybe they didn't want to cheat Sexton out of retaining his bird rights. And maybe they think Nurkic can be used as a trade chip later for a team looking to clear cap space for '26.

Ugh…why couldn’t we have made this trade?
Sometimes it feels like the rest of the NBA actively tries to make us look bad.

Cam Whitmore to WAS for two 2nds. We sure we wanted those 2nds instead of him?

The 2nds turned into Fleming…I’d rather have Fleming than Whitmore at this point.

Yep. Fleming actually plays defense. I like Whitmore but if he had any value he wouldn't have ended up in basketball purgatory.

Grizzlies traded Jay Huff to the Pacers and then picked up Jock

I like the Jay Huff addition, he gives you a decent bit of what Turner did for a fraction of the price.

I get the sentiment, and often share it. But timing matters and looking to deal Nurkic last deadline (while specifically targeting cap savings) instead of now (while not caring about adding salary) makes a big difference (unless I am missing some angle from you here). Fully agree that UTA was hustled hard here. No way to defend adding a pick (any pick) to the undisputable better player when contracts are basically the same. Strong Dragic-Brooks vibes.

Thank goodness we didn’t sign this horrible “point guard” that was linked to the Suns.

He re-signed with his current team for a contract we can’t pay him. But ya let’s blame the front office for this one.

Huh? That wasn’t sarcasm. I’m glad our front office was not able to get him. We dodged a bullet.

Also Rollins was pretty great to finish the season last year. I would have liked him.
