Off-season Plans
Re: Off-season Plans
Re: Off-season Plans
Man, there have been few Suns acquisitions more disappointing than Tom Gugliotta. He had been averaging 20+ ppg for Minnesota for a few years before we got him. His first year with us, he averages 17 ppg; the next year, 13.7 ppg; the next, 6.4 ppg. Such a rapid decline. We signed him to fill the hole after Antonio McDyess ditched us and went back to the Nuggets. He paled in comparison. Sad times.

Bryan was GM then.In2ition wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 2:24 pmAdd Nash to this list of players he traded. The Bobster wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 1:10 pmJerry Colangelo was very good about not falling in love with his players. Only three long-time Suns finished their careers here - Dick Van Arsdale, Alvan Adams and Kevin Johnson. Hey traded Connie Hawkins, Paul Silas, Paul Westphal, Charlie Scott, Dennis Johnson, Truck Robinson and Larry Nance.
There's going to be a time to trade Durant and Booker, and they have to be willing to pull the trigger when that time comes.

Is there any way to swap rosters with Cleveland with Booker and Mitchell being the two exceptions?ShelC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:13 amBook needs a big who plays like a big. He needs a Pau to his Kobe. KD is essentially a 7ft SG. But Book needs a true PG who can run a team and a legit 2way big. Fill in the rest with athletic defenders and shooters. Easier said than done, but that's the model IMO.

How about those two baseball players who swapped wives in the '70s?

We’re talking about swapping players, not swapping wives.

Technically the Celtics (owned by Irv Levin) moved to San Diego and Braves owner (John Y. Brown) took his team to Boston. Then they reshuffled their players.
Boston kept their draft picks (including Larry Bird, Freeman Williams and Jeff Judkins), Buffalo kept theirs (including Jerome Whitehead and Stan Pietkiewicz)
Boston then traded Kevin Kunnert, Kermit Washington, Sidney Wicks and the draft rights to Williams to San Diego for Nate Archibald, Billy Knight, a 1981 second round draft choice [Danny Ainge] and a 1983 second round draft choice [Rod Foster]
Buffalo had coaching vacancies that they took to San Diego, hiring Gene Shue. Tom Sanders, who had replaced Tom Heinsohn during the 1977-78 season stayed in Boston as coach. San Diego owner Irv Levin hired a new front office in San Diego and the Boston front office (including Red Auerbach) stayed in place for Brown's "new Celtics".

Just trade KD in the Summer. I prefer young players to draft picks but both would be nice.

Re: Off-season Plans
Ayton was getting traded no matter what. He was done here. Instead of Nurk being traded today, it would have been Ayton and a 1st being sent out, and the return may have been even worse.
The Ayton trade was bad because Jones is a bad negotiator, always has been. It was a bad trade because we gave up Camara, not because we traded Ayton.

Re: Off-season Plans
I'm not advising it, but if I were ever looking to trade Booker this summer, my first call would be to Detroit.
A lot of things align there and I think they'd be willing to give up more than most other teams.
Toby Harris would probably have to be in the deal for his contract. After that I'd try to get 3/4 of Duren, Ivey, Holland and Thompson. I'd settle for 2/4 of them but would push for more draft assets in that case.

Re: Off-season Plans
So try to get both Thompson twins?
Re: Off-season Plans
Well, it'll be an interesting off-season for sure. Booker is not getting traded the season after he set the franchise scoring record, sorry. The million dollar question is what we do with KD. Do we get as much as we can for him? Or do we go the other direction and extend him? If the Suns do what they said they'd do and evaluate the rest of the season and we don't get past the first round, it would be malpractice to not trade him.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.
